Multiple nominations for EastEnders at Soap awards

Tuesday, 29 Apr 2008 00:02
EastEnders is the frontrunner for the 2008 British Soap awards.
The nominations for the 2008 British Soap awards have revealed EastEnders is the frontrunner.

As well as looking likely to win big in the viewer-voted categories, the BBC1 soap is also nominated in every category of the panel-voted gongs, with the likes of Jo Joyner, Jamie Borthwick and Rita Simons up for awards.

The Mitchell sisters, relatively-new residents of Albert Square, look to be favourites for the best on-screen partnership prize.

And the drama of Max and Stacey's affair will be vying against Hannah's anorexia, as well as John Paul and Craig's affair in Hollyoaks, and Nick being paralysed in Doctors for the best storyline award.

Fern Britton, who is hosting the ceremony with her This Morning colleague Philip Schofield, said she is "just as excited this year, even though it's my third year of presenting it with Phillip".

"It's the highlight of the year for me and to stand in front of an audience of very famous people and iconic characters is just fantastic," she added.

However, Fern rubbished speculation that she would be clad in the type of revealing dress favoured by Dancing On Ice host Holly Willoughby, saying she would only consider such an outfit if she was "as youthful and had such gravity-defying bosoms as Holly".

The British Soap awards are shown on ITV1 at 20:00 BST on Wednesday May 7th.
