Juno star says work has started on Arrested Development film

Tuesday, 04 Mar 2008 13:14
Jason Bateman says work is beginning on movie version of cancelled TV show Arrested Development.
A movie version of cancelled TV show Arrested Development is closer than ever, according to Jason Bateman.

The Juno star said in February that discussions for a film based on the award-winning show had begun hesitantly, though the Hollywood writers' strike had put paid to any firm negotiations.

But with the strike now over, Bateman told MTV that show creator Mitch Hurwitz and producer Ron Howard are now working on taking the exploits of the Bluth family to the big screen.

"The ball has started rolling down the hill again," he said. "So hopefully, all the adults can get the business stuff together - because all the creatives are on board."

While the project does not yet have a script, it is believed Hurwitz has a plot outline for the movie.

Teen Wolf Too actor Bateman admitted he was unsure what Hurwitz had planned for the cinematic version of the Fox programme.

"I learned a long time ago not to try to guess what Mitch Hurwitz will come up with. But it'll be good, whatever it is," he added.

Despite winning six Emmy awards, a Golden Globe for leading man Bateman, a spot in Time magazine's 100 Greatest Shows of All Time list and continual critical acclaim, the comedy ended in February 2006 after poor ratings.

Arrested Development stars Bateman and Michael Cera, who played a father and son in the series, can still be seen on UK screens in the award-winning Juno.End of story
