Joss Stone cast as Anne of Cleves in next season of The Tudors
Joss Stone has been cast as Anne of Cleves in the next season of The Tudors.
The soul singer has been signed up to star as Henry VIII's fourth wife in the BBC/Showtime drama, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In what will be her first major acting role - Stone had a small part in 2006 fantasy film Eragon - the Devon-born star will feature in the third season of the racy costume drama.
With season two of the drama having just begun in the UK, casting arrangements are already in place for the third series, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers returning as the monarch while Anita Briem will star as his third wife Jane Seymour.
Stone will star as Anne of Cleves, the daughter of a German nobleman who was betrothed to Henry VIII in marriage treaty between the king's court and the Cleves Court.
Hans Holbein the Younger had been commissioned to paint a portrait of Anne for the king, who agreed to the marriage in 1540, but after she arrived in England, he found her unattractive and labelled her the 'Flanders Mare'.
With the marriage having never been consummated, Henry was successfully able to seek an annulment after only six months.
