Mirren with her best actress award at the Venice Film Festival
Speculation has been raised that Helen Mirren's character could be killed off in the last series of Prime Suspect.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday the award-winning actress appeared to make a gaffe about the secret plotline.
When asked if more series could be in the pipeline, Mirren said: "As far as I know, at this time, that is the end for Jane Tennison but who knows what might happen...She might come back from the dead! Oh my god, forget that I said that."
The 61-year-old actress has been playing Tennison for 15 years now, and although Mirren admitted that she would be upset to see the show end she felt that it was time for it to reach a conclusion.
"It's time. I let go of it with great regret," the Sun newspaper quotes her as saying. "But we always wanted Prime Suspect to be realistic and fit the real, real world as it is today in Britain."
Following the press conference she donned a glamorous suit for the London premiere of her latest film, The Queen.
So far the film has won praise from critics, with her portrayal of the monarch following the death of princess Diana winning her the best actress award at the Venice Film Festival last weekend.
