Corrie star: 'I nearly died'
Coronation Street star Bruce Jones has spoken out about how he feared for his life during his battle with acute pneumonia.
The actor, who plays lovable rogue Les Battersby in the soap, has revealed how he was dangerously ill just two months ago.
It was only thanks to the love and devotion from his caring wife Sandra that he pulled through, he told the News Of The World.
The 53-year-old, who lost two stone during his illness, said: "I was in so much pain I was screaming. I just wanted to die.
"I couldn't go on and I thought it was the end."
He had thought he was going down with a cold in January when he started sneezing and coughing, but his health quickly deteriorated.
Bruce suffered acute chest pains and breathing problems as the pneumonia took hold.
"Sandra had to help sit me up every time I wanted to cough," the dad of two said. "I couldn't turn myself over in bed."
But he battled his way through it to continue with his much-loved job on the Street.
"Don't worry. I'm back and Les is back!" said Bruce. "I love Corrie, it is my life."
