Charlotte Church: "I'm pregnant"

Thursday, 01 Mar 2007 16:34
Charlotte Church is dating the Welsh rugby international Gavin Henson
Charlotte Church has announced that she is pregnant.

The 21-year-old singer and chatshow host decided to make the news public following recent speculation that she and her boyfriend Gavin Henson were expecting their first child.

Rather appropriately considering her Welsh roots, Charlotte's announcement coincides with the country's national day, St David's Day.

A statement from her management on her website said that she and Welsh rugby star Gavin, are "delighted" but would not be commenting further due to "reasons of privacy".

"In an ideal world, we would not have made this announcement so early in the pregnancy," the statement read.

"However, due to recent speculation and persistent questions from the media about this most private of matters, Charlotte felt she had no choice other than to go public and she was keen to ensure that her fans had the opportunity to read the truth [on her site] first."

Charlotte rose to fame during childhood as a classical singer and was branded as having "the voice of an angel".

An attempt at a pop career was not as successful but the first series of her chatshow on Channel 4 proved so popular that the broadcaster commissioned another two series.
