Pete Burns fears future Big Brother contestants may be "damaged"
Former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Pete Burns has warned contestants for the upcoming series of the reality TV show that the experience could send them "crazy".
Burns, the cross-dressing Dead Or Alive frontman whose 'gorilla fur' coat caused controversy in the BB house in January 2006, said this year's hopefuls might end up "damaged".
"I don't know how these people can stay in that house for 13 weeks. They deprive you of sleep in that place," he said.
Burns was one of the last six left in the 2006 version of the Channel 4 show. With the furore over Jade Goody's comments still ringing in everyone's ears, it's possible this summer's 'normal' contestants may be less inclined to voice any outspoken opinions they might hold.
Unfortunately Burns thinks their desire to get noticed may get the better of them.
"Everyone is obsessed with becoming a celebrity these days," he said.
"It used to be said that everyone should enjoy 15 minutes of fame. These days you are famous in 15 minutes. And it doesn't last."
