This year's housemates were shocked to find that Big Brother has done a runner - to Margate, of all places.
Early this morning Glyn, Aisleyne and Richard discovered a giant postcard from Big Brother, notifying the eight remaining contestants that thanks to a break to the seaside messages to the diary room would have to be delivered to an answerphone messaging service.
Reactions to the unexpected exit of the all-seeing eye were mixed. While Aisleyne was dismayed, saying that "I don't like it without them being here. I want Big Brother back," Imogen was more optimistic, asking: "Can we go back to bed?"
Although the new 'home alone' task is likely to play with the housemates' minds still further, such interventions are not entirely necessary.
During a reflective session last night housemates came to the revolutionary conclusion that being cooped up in an enclosed space for weeks and weeks on end made people more "emotional".
While Mikey said that the Big Brother experience "brings out every emotion", Susie said (not very originally) that "it brings out every emotion you have". Eighteen-year-old Welshman Glyn even admitted that "I've never cried before coming in here. now I've cried three times".
Let's hope the sudden absence of Big Brother doesn't tip our mentally unstable friends over the edge.
