Big Brother's latest series looks set to be the weirdest yet as producers unveiled a macabre cast of misfits and oddballs for the show's seventh outing.

Among the too-big personalities this year are an ex-porn star, a right-wing toff and a sufferer of Tourette's syndrome.

The show was originally presented as a psychological experiment seeking to examine the effects of long-term close contact with strangers.

But falling ratings and the popularity of larger-than-life participants on the show has led to the show's producers abandoning any pretence at normalcy, appearing to prefer surreality to reality TV.

This season's antics are billed as being more "twisted" than ever before by Big Brother's production team, who said they planned on exaggerating the claustrophobic atmosphere further.

But rumours that a cow was waiting for housemates inside the compound proved to be unfounded, despite the insistent mooing of crowds watching contestants enter.

Instead housemates encountered a radical departure in the house, with designers placing grass inside the house and carpet in the garden to play with the minds of the inmates even further.

Only one luxury has been afforded to the contestants – several of the beds are big enough to easily accommodate at least three people.

With 13 weeks for tensions to simmer on those long hot summer nights there are no prizes on offer for guessing what prompted that particular production decision.track
