Thursday, 04 Jan 2007 17:47
DiCaprio has been nominated for his roles in Blood Diamond and The Departed
Leonardo DiCaprio has led the way at the Screen Actors Guild (Sag) awards with two nominations for 'outstanding' performances.

His role as Archer in Blood Diamond earned him the nomination for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role, while playing Billy in The Departed earned him the same nomination for a supporting role.

Other male actors nominated for the best actor in a leading role are Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson, Peter O'Toole in Venus, Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness and Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland.

Female actors given a nod for the most outstanding role are Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet.

Babel, Bobby, The Departed, Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine have all been nominated for award for an outstanding performance by an entire cast.

The Sag awards, staged on January 28th, are often seen as a good indicator of which films will succeed at the Oscars in February.

Actors hold the awards in great esteem as they are voted for by their peers; 2,100 Sag members are balloted across the country.
