Veteran comedian Jimmy Tarbuck has danced his last tango in BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing after doctors advised him to withdraw because of health reasons.
The 66-year-old missed last week's show due to high blood pressure, and a BBC One spokesperson yesterday confirmed that he had been forced to pull out from the competition altogether.
"Following a doctor's assessment this week, Jimmy, the doctors and the BBC have come to the decision that for the good of Jimmy's health he should no longer take part," the representative said.
Tarbuck, who had been training with professional dance partner Flavia Cacace, said he was "absolutely devastated" to no longer be able to compete.
"I really wanted to dance on the show this week but I have to take the advice of the doctors who have told me I need to rest.
"I would like to thank my wonderful partner Flavia who has taught me so much and been patient in trying to turn this old carthorse into a proper dancer. I will really miss training with her," he said.
Jimmy added: "I will continue to enjoy watching the show and will be there in person on Saturday to see how my fellow contestants are shaping up now their hottest competition is out of the way."
The fourth series of Strictly Come Dancing, again fronted by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, features former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and singer Emma Bunton among its roster of dancing celebrities.
