David Cameron's latest attempt to appear down-to-earth can be found in an interview with Shortlist magazine.

Although it doesn't come close to matching the infamy of Nick Clegg's GC interview or Cameron's own appearance on Jonathan Ross, the Conservative party leader does go to great extent to tell us what he likes and dislikes. So, to save you the trouble...

Likes

TV - especially Sky+ and (conversely) BBC programmes such as Silent Witness, Spooks, Lark Rise to Candleford and David Attenborough's Life

Draught Guinness in cans - "one of the great inventions of our time"

The Thick of It - the Armando Iannucci series was "brilliantly done"

Arnold Schwarzenegger - there was "something quite majestic" about meeting him in a tent smoking a cigar in California

Darts - Cameron was "a bit star struck" when meeting Eric Bristow, John Lowe and Keith Deller switching on the Witney Christmas lights in 2007

Florence and the Machine - the last CD DC bought

Gap, Marks & Spencer and Paul Smith - Cameron's clothing retailers of choice

Gordon Brown's stories - the prime minister is "very knowledgeable about history and politics. I remember once chatting to him about American politics in the 30s"

Dislikes

Meditation - William Hague does it to keep calm but not Cameron

Reality TV - the Tory leader does not watch Strictly Come Dancing or X Factor and "never got into" Big Brother

In the Loop - the Oscar-nominated big screen version of Thick of It is "only quite good... it didn't quite capture it"

Labour's obsession with the 24-hour news cycle - "It's very important if we win the elections you have to put away those tools"

Lily Allen - the Smile singer is "slightly unsuitable" for his daughter

Newspapers - "I don't read every one"

Image consultants - "Obviously I've got a team of people who help me with everything but family time is family time"

Gordon Brown's sense of humour - "I don't remember any great rib-tickling moments, but maybe he's been saving them up"

Simon Cowell - "Politics isn't showbusiness and shouldn't try to be"
