Lewis Bazley on the new efforts from Arctic Monkeys, Muse and Marina and the Diamonds.
Arctic Monkeys: Cornerstone
Their finest moment? The video's certainly the funniest Alex Turner's ever been, moving away from his self-styled "miserable little tyke" persona to show the wit that's always come across in his lyrics. A tale of lost love and mistaken identity, with the Scott Walker stylings he embraced in the Last Shadow Puppets evident, this will sound relevant and moving in 20 years.
Muse: Undisclosed Desires
Yes, it's the R 'n' B one. Despite its Timbaland-esque drums, and Matt Bellamy looking like a berk in sunglasses and leather in the video, it's still compelling, intelligent and enjoyably arch.
Jason Derulo: Whatcha Say
Though to my ears this JR Rotem-produced sub-Rihanna R 'n' B effort commits sonic sacrilege as it makes a cash cow from the sublime Imogen Heap song Hide and Seek, it's clearly going to be massive.
Marina and the Diamonds: Mowgli's Road
Already posted on Kanye West's blog, this could be the track that propels the supremely talented Ms Diamandis to stardom. All jungle whoops and Stefani-esque, hand-on-hip vocals, it's a prime example of one of the least classifiable but most exciting pop artists around.
Ingrid Michaelson: Maybe
A recipient of the Grey's Anatomy effect - see the Fray for example of how soapy medical drama can propel band to superstardom - there's a hint of Lisa Loeb and Schuyler Fisk to this frankly lovely slice of folk pop.
