Sexual health poll

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) show no signs of abating, with the latest figures from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealing a six per cent rise in new STI diagnoses since 2006.

Young people aged between 16 and 24 are the group most affected, with almost half of all newly diagnosed STIs despite just one eighth of the population falling in this age bracket

Health experts and campaigners say education must be improved so more people know about the importance of safe sex and regular testing.

Calls have also been made for improved access to sexual health services, with sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) taking testing to pubs and youth centres.
