Sienna Miller has been awarded £15,000 in damages after the Daily Star published a banned photo of the Hollywood actress.

The 26-year-old received the damages, expenses and apology from the tabloid in an out-of-court settlement.

The offending photo had been taken on September 11th, showing a distressed Miller surrounded by paparazzi in an LA hotel lobby.

Despite a blanket ban on any UK newspaper publishing the photos from the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), the Daily Star printed the image in an accompanying story on the incident.

In its apology the tabloid accepted it should have abided by the PCC ban.

"We accept, as we said in the article, that Ms Miller was extremely harassed and distressed by persistent pursuit and intimidating tactics adopted by numerous paparazzi in seeking to obtain photographs of her, including the very photograph that we published," the apology said.

"We apologise to Sienna for publishing this photograph."
