George Michael has apologised after being cautioned in a public toilet for drug possession.

The singer was arrested on Friday been found loitering in underground toilets in Hampstead Heath, north London and cautioned for the possession of class A and class C drugs, believed to be crack cocaine and cannabis.

In a statement Michael said: "I want to apologise to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I'll sort myself out.

"And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them."

A Metropolitan police statement said: "A 45-year-old man was arrested in the Hampstead Heath area on September 19th on suspicion of the possession of drugs.

"He was taken to a North London police station, where he was interviewed and received a caution for possession of Class A and Class C drugs. He was released and no further action will be taken."

The former Wham! star was arrested in a public toilet in a notable 1998 incident, having been detained by an undercover Los Angeles police officer for lewd conduct.

In October 2006, Michael was found slumped over the wheel of his car at Hyde Park Corner, central London and he received a two-year driving ban in May having admitted to driving while unfit.

Last month, Michael, real name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, told reporters he would no longer be performing stadium tours.
