A bomb at power station in southern Afghanistan has killed two people
A bomb has been exploded at a small electricity department building in southern Afghanistan killing two people.

The insurgent Taliban movement in the Helmand province admitted to planting the bomb this morning.

It was claimed that the blast was an attempted assassination attempt on the district police chief, Razak Khan, who was known to hold meetings at the building on a regular occurrence.

Afghan officials confirmed that two people had been killed in the explosion and another eight wounded, but could not confirm whether Mr Khan had been present at the time.

Helmand province police commander, General Mohammad Hussein said that it was currently unclear how the bomb was planted.

"How it happened, we don't know but some explosives were planted inside the building which caused the explosion," he said.

"As a result of the explosion, two employees of the department have been killed, six other employees and two civilians have been wounded."

The building lay around 200 metres from a small hydropower plant and had been where people came to pay electricity bills or make inquiries about power supply.End of story
